New Avatar Dark Horse Series Coming

Dark Horse Comics have announced that they will to expand on their Avatar comic book line with a sequel to the 2009 film called “Avatar: The Next Shadow.”

A four-part miniseries by writer Jeremy Barlow (“Alien Vs. Predator: Thicker Than Blood”), artist Josh Hood (“We Can Never Go Home”), and letterer Wes Dzioba (“Avatar: Tsu’tey’s Path”), the miniseries will take place immediately after the conclusion of the film, and follow Jake Sully as he struggles to maintain order within the Omaticaya clan after his arrival, with a plan to take him out of the Na’vi being put into place. Gui Balbi will be providing each issue with its cover artwork.

Dark Horse have previously published two comic books further exploring the world of Pandora; “Avatar: Brothers,” a Free Comic Book Day 2017 story about Sully’s bond with the Great Leonopteryx, and 2019’s miniseries, “Avatar: Tsu’tey’s Path,” which chronicled the journey of Laz Alonso’s character. “The Next Shadow” will be the first time the publisher has told a story taking place after the events of James Cameron’s film, with the previous titles only delving deeper into the original story.

The next cinematic entry into the Avatar frachise, the as yet officially untitled Avatar 2, is scheduled for release in cinemas in December 2022.

“Avatar: The Next Shadow” #1 will be released physically and digitally on January 6, 2021.
